South Salt Lake’s 80th birthday began with a glitter party thrown by South Salt Lake Mayor Cherie Wood at the Columbus Center on Sept. 21. Also being celebrated were the police and fire departments turning 75.

Attendees at the evening affair included council members, police, the mayor’s staff, and others who enjoyed Leatherby’s ice cream and live music by Crash Pontiac and the Hubcaps.

The city recorder, Craig Burton, is the rhythm guitar player in the oldie’s band that kept guests dancing the night away. His wife, Elaine, is also in the band playing the keys and singing. Bob Shorten is on bass and the lead singer, Doug Moffat lead guitar, Keven Harsh on drums, and Diane Moffat on the violin.

A photo booth with hats, mustaches, and other silly accessories were available to guests and pictures were given on the spot with a Birthday Bash banner on the prints as a souvenir.

Prizes were given out for the glitteriest people in the room. The winners were Elias Caress, Jennifer Dustin, Sue Long, and Marion Smith. South Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Gary Birdsall and his wife Paulette were also winners.
