The math, engineering and science achievement teams from Cottonwood High School and Granite Park Junior High School, competed in the national USA Wind Energy Competition in Seattle, Wash. in June. Both schools won the state competition in May, allowing them entry into nationals, the second year in a row for Granite Park. Cottonwood’s team took second place with its Electrical Power Production project; its windmill generated the second-highest amount of electricity. Granite Park took third place in Design Efficiency with its windmill being the third lightest designed in the middle school category. Cottonwood’s team members are: Katie Thompson, Regina Zambrano, Sharly Nielson and Cathy McDonald; advisers are Tom Sharpe and Andrew Marks. Granite Park team members are: Madison Paul, Kayla Duffey, Eriq Dawson and Blaine Peterson; advisers are Andrew Marks and Alison Bowers.
