Withaeger encourage residents to witness the benefits of contrast therapy for themselves. PLUNJ provides a space for individuals to utilize a hot sauna and ice cold bath.

“There is something that happens here. I feel it,” said Blickenstaff. “It makes a difference.”

Combining the benefits reported by contrast therapy and the regime of Nordic style bathhouses, PLUNJ asks visitors to switch between extreme hot and extreme cold. 60-minute sessions are designed to cycle through the regimen of hot, cold, and repeat.

“I was blown away by the simplicity and experience of PLUNJ,” Brian Brown, marketing manager and co-owner for PLUNJ South Salt Lake,. ““I’m convinced there’s no better place to connect and re-connect.”

The first 15 minutes are recommended to be spent in the hot sauna. PLUNJ’s dry sauna creates löyly (the Finnish word for the steam that comes off hot rocks) to heat the room to between 175 and 190 degrees Fahrenheit with approximately 20 percent humidity

Then, moving to the cold amenities where temperatures are typically maintained from 45 and 50 degrees Fahrenheit, submerge completely for up to five minutes.

Come out of that cold plunge to relax for at least three minutes. PLUNJ provides relaxation areas to allow the body time to self-regulate it’s own temperature. Then, repeat this hot, cold, relax regiment for the full 60-minute cycle.

Our bathhouse strives to straddle the line between utility and luxury,” said the PLUNJ team. “You will find that our space, while very well-appointed, is simple in its method as well as in its practice. When all is said and done, we have only one goal: to help you feel better than when you came in.”

PLUNJ does have additional locations in Kaysville and Saratoga Springs. Additional construction is happening to bring PLUNJ locations to Draper, Spanish Fork, Park City, Las Vegas, and Boise. The newest PLUNJ can be visited in South Salt Lake at 55 West Utopia Ave. #103.

The four business partners are looking forward to sharing their regimenes and experiences for better health with the residents of South Salt Lake.

“We want to provide a place that’s a little closer to home for people in Salt Lake to work this into their day-to-day routine,” they said.

Some of the benefits from the contrast therapy PLUNJ is intended to offer may include: improved blood circulation, enhanced sleep quality, elevated energy levels, reduced inflammation, boosted metabolism, and increased range of motion, among others.
