South Salt Lake Mayor Cherie Wood started her fifth term with a quote from Margaret Mead. “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”
Along with Wood, four city councilmembers took the oath of office on Monday, Jan. 5, promising to support, obey and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Utah State Constitution.
“To the residents of South Salt Lake, thank you for placing your trust in me. That trust is something I carry with humility and purpose,” Wood said. “South Salt Lake is a city defined by its people, by our diversity, our resilience, and our belief that everyone deserves a safe, welcoming place to call home.”
Corey Thomas (District 2) was sworn in for her third term in office, Sharla Bynum (District 3) for her fourth term, and at-large councilmembers Clarissa Williams and Ray deWolfe each took the oath of office for their second terms.
“This is a responsibility that I approach with humility,” deWolfe said. “Public service is fundamentally an act of stewardship. It’s not about holding a position. It’s about caring for something that belongs to all of us, and I intend to carry that responsibility with respect, diligence and a long-term view of what’s best for our city.”
SSL City Council meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at SSL City Hall (220 E. Morris Ave.) Council meeting agendas and live streaming are available at sslc.gov.
