First domino falls as townhomes, library move closer

The South Salt Lake Planning Commission has recommended for approval the ordinance amending the general plan allowing for high-density housing on the Granite High School property. The ordinance now moves to the City Council for approval. This action was possible as eight considerations presented by the city staff were resolved.

City council reduces community development budget request from $200,000 to $15,000

The South Salt Lake City staff proposed a fiscal year 2019 budget amendment to the city council. While some parts were approved without discussion, the Community Development request became a hot topic. Frustration was voiced by both groups. In the end, Community Development received $15,000 rather than the requested $200,000.

Salt Lake County has a new mayor – Democrat Jenny Wilson. Wilson seeks to buoy Salt Lake County with her version of “The Great Salt Lake County Dream.” Wilson has a new staff in place and seeks to bring priorities of air quality, housing affordability, and growth management to the fore for 18 cities comprising the county. “Benchmarks” and “Best Practices” are part of the Salt Lake County tool box to synch development.
